After a chunk of crumbling stonework detached from a chimney and fell onto the pavement of the bustling Brunsfield Street below, the Edinburgh Council temporarily secured the chimney. This was necessary for the protection of the pedestrians and vehicles below, but the problem required a permanent solution, not a temporary fix. Responding to the residents' request, we've undertaken the repair of the chimneys. Due to the safety requirements and the work method, we had to install four tall scaffolding towers. Using those for secure, safe and efficient access, we meticulously removed the crumbling plaster from all four chimneys all the way down to bare masonry, applied fresh render, installed lead watergates around the chimney stacks, cleaned the gutters, and replaced approximately 30 roof tiles. Job completed with precision and safety prioritized, for many years of future service.
